Once you’ve decided to add a furry new member to your family that can be a rather exciting time. When that time comes, it is good to ask yourself: why would it be a good idea to adopt a dog? Back in the day, the only ways you get a dog is when:
- You buy one or someone buys it for you
- Someone you know has extra puppies they want to give away
Either way, it was all reliant on funds and timing. In today’s world, there are more avenues that people can pursue. We’ve had our own experiences with adopting dogs and here are some good reasons why it’s a good idea:
It’ll Cost You Less
Depending on the sort of breed that you buy, it can easily cost you upwards of $500 for all the paperwork, initial vaccinations, and the other things that your new dog may need. This is by going through a pet shop that needs to pay utilities and staff.
A shelter which usually hosts adoptions is usually nonprofit organizations and is run by volunteers. They make sure that their dogs are up to date on their vaccinations. So you do end up paying less overall. All you have to really pay for would be the processing fee which isn’t much.
You’ll Obtain a Different Sort of Loyalty
Dogs which are from shelters usually have been abandoned by previous owners or have never experienced having an owner before. They are usually hungry for love and affection. Should you choose to adopt a dog, you’ll get to experience a love, gratitude, and a loyalty that isn’t like anything else.
So as you can see, there are some pretty good reasons why you should adopt a dog. What are your ideas about adopting a dog from a shelter?
